REVIEW:
Five…four…three…two…one….Yaaaaaaaaaaaah. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Mii (and you) skydiving down to Wuhu Island, the Wii Sports Resort Capital of planet Nintendo. Well ok maybe there is no screaming as it’s only a game, but strange enough jumping out of a plane as you skydive down to the island where Zorro’s are born is still great fun and a heck of a lot safer than jumping out of a real plane. The Wii Sport Resort is a place where Backhands are useful, Short Pimples are full up and Cutting Drills can “save” your life. Intrigued? Well read further and all will be revealed.

Wuhu Island has soooooooo many things to do that there is never a dull moment. You and your companions can expect a host of activities – twelve to be exact with lots of mini games within each of the main sports. Once you’ve completed your Skydive the following awaits you:

Archery

Basketball

Power Cruising

Archery: The Wii Remote is the front of your bow and you mimick drawing on the bow’s string by pulling the nunchuk back. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much fun this is…………. put that apple on your head my dear.

Basketball: A clever range of motion controls and simple button inputs allow for dribbling, passing, blocking and shooting………….and now white men can also jump!

Frisbee: About as exciting as …………….well throwing frisbee can be and if you’ve ever played with a frisbee, you’ll know it only takes about 5 minutes before you’re bored. There are however a few options available in this mode that some folks will probably enjoy.

Tenpin Bowling

Bowling: Bowling is great and a very real life game thanks to the spin you are able to put on the ball because of the Wii MotionPlus. In acftual fact you can generate so much spin that a mini game within bowling exists where you need to bowl around obstacles. The best part about bowling………….you don’t have to wear those stinky bowling shoes that “Mr. Athletes Foot” with the cheesy toes wore before you got there. What, you thought everyone wearing those bowling shoes bath every day? Yeah, I know that’s just gross but it’s probably not far from the truth. There there, calm down. What’s done is done – how were you to know? The good news is no more stinky gross bowling shoes.

Cycling: What a Boooooooorrrriiiiiiiiiiing game. Put your arms in front of you and doggy paddle – that’s how you cycle. If real cycling is this boring it’s no wonder the guys riding the Tour de France are doping. I would too if I had to cycle for so many days and it’s anything like cycling in this game. Anyone who likes this game needs to be moved from Wuhu Island to Cookoo Island.

Canoeing: Now you would think this would be more boring than cycling. Not so. It’s definitely a little slow pased but very amusing………….row row row your boat gently down the stream, Wii Wii Wii-iiii….life is but a dream!

Power Cruising: Use the remotes as handlebars to race between floating archways. It’s ok but not the best Wii game ever.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis: The awesome capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus ensures all of the games on Wii Sports Resort are extremely interactive and great fun, but this is never more evident than when you’re playing table tennis. You don’t even need Short Pimples. No, Short Pimples is not the name of the short table tennis instructor with lots of pimples at the resort – it’s actually a type of racket covering. True’s Bob – search it on the net I’m not kidding – it apparently assists with spinning the ball. Anyways, you won’t be needing any short pimples to spin the ball when playing Wii table tennis. Don’t think it’s as easy as pie though. With Wii MotionPlus you will actually have to hit the ball as if you were playing real table tennis. For example, the racket needs to be on the correct side of your body when hitting the ball and the angle of the racket also needs to be correct. Thanks to the  increased sensitivity you’ll have more control and better spin. Don’t forget about those backhands I mentioned in the opening paragraph – they certainly come in useful. Hah, and you thought I was talking about a job in the government when I mentioned backhands.

Air Sports: Skydiving is really cool even if it’s not real life. You can also fly over the island by holding the Wii Remote as if it were a paper plane.

Swordplay: In swordplay you will attack and defend as you fight plenty of Mii characters. Oh, and don’t think for one second this is nilly willy business. Three hits and you’re out of there so you better have practised your cutting drills (a term used in fencing that describes practising how to “cut” someone).

Golf: Fade, slice or draw. You’ll never have to spend as much time looking for your ball in Wii Golf as you do on the real golf course which of course is Awesome…………good fun if golf is your thing.

Wakeboarding: This one is for the water sports enthusiast.The game is fun but probably the most basic of all the Wii Sports on the island and not really my scene. Some of you might enjoy it though.

Wii Sports Resort

Now we don’t want to tell you everything we know about the game – there has to be a few surprizes. What we do need to mention is a few of the games are a bit dull, so don’t say we didn’t tell you so. The good games however far overshadow the dull one’s and these will keep you well entertained.

Overall Wii Sports Resort is exactly like going on holiday. First of all a holiday is much better with friends and family than when going alone and the same counts for the Wii Sports Resort game – it’s much better when played with someone. Secondly, everyone enjoys a holiday and everyone will also enjoy Wii Sports. More importantly everyone is also able to play Wii Sports irrespective of your age (within reason) or your gaming skill level – which is exactly what one has come to expect from Wii. Although the real hard core gamers will probably not enjoy this game, it is a great buy for the social gamer. Wii Sports Resort provides an awesome, realistic and immersive gaming experience that will ensure hours of fun and laughter.

We here at the Wii Showroom have researched the pros and cons of owning a Wii and I’ll start off by first stating why you should maybe NOT buy a Wii Console (i.e. the Cons). Hmmm…Hmmm…Hmmm…I’m thinking….Hmmm…sorry, but we honestly could not find any cons to owning a Wii console.

So let’s then get straight to the good stuff about Wii Games and why we feel so strongly that you will enjoy owning a Wii Console. NINTENDO WII IS FOR EVERYONE – irrespective of whether you are a hard core 35 year old gamer still living in your old lady’s basement because of your gaming obsession or if you are a grandpa who is as scared of anything remotely technology related like someone who is allergic to bee’s, and every time you see a console you go running as if it is the mother of all bee hives. The Wii has such a diverse collection of games and is so easy, interactive and fun to play with its intuitive motion controls that everyone in the family, whether it be the hard core gamer nephew or gramps, will enjoy some or other aspect of it.

Wii Games are as much fun to play one up as what they are to watch Grandpa playing Wii Fit, showing off his 1939 boxing moves from back in the day – difference is now you can actually watch him do it instead of just having too listen to his stories. All he has to do is pick-up the Nunchuks and throw a couple of punches – nothing can be easier. No experience needed – except his boxing skills of course. The point I’m trying to make is that the magnificent Wii gaming console delivers a fun social activity for the whole family and must surely be the only gaming console that can bridge generation gaps so easily because of its user friendliness. If you don’t enjoy it you probably also don’t like puppies, ice cream or having fun – in which case you’re a lost cause anyways, so sorry, nothing (not even 1000 free Wii games) or no-one will be able to help your grumpy ass (excuse my french, but some folks just don’t get it).

I’m sure you want to know a bit more about the Wii Games available so let’s quickly go over a couple. I will try and keep it short so that you don’t get bored, but still end up having a better understanding as to why wii (and by wii I mean we…get it… wii we wii we wii we, sorry getting a bit carried away with a lame cheesy joke hey?)…..why we believe this gaming console is for everyone.

The Wii Games collection covers just about any type of game you can think of. From the legendary Mario Bros to Sports Games, Racing Games and Adventure Games, to jamming with Guitar Hero. There is definitely a game available for everyone in the Wii collection and too many to mention here (please refer to the Wii Showroom game pages after reading this article to check out some of the best games available). In Super Mario Galaxy 2 (my favourite game) you will experience a gravity defying adventure as you battle for the princess’s freedom while travelling from one galaxy to the next in this absolutely awesome game. This one though is probably not for grandpa or anyone who is a bit weary of technology – they will however enjoy watching someone play as the graphics are beautiful and the soundtrack delightful. For Mario fans there is a host of other Mario games as well, from Mario Kart to Mario & Sonic at the Olympics.

Guittar Hero Super Bundle Package

Everyone likes some sort of music right? Well what about bringing out Guitar Hero 5 at the next family get together. You can have family members singing their own rock songs or you can do some family bonding and jam together as a band depending on how many instrument controllers you have purchased. Uncle Sid (or whatever his name is) can do his favourite (and probably ridiculously hillarious) Mick Jagger impression when he sings a Rolling Stones tune. WARNING: Neither ourselves nor Nintendo will be held liable for any “pain & suffering”  caused to your ears by Uncle Sid’s voice, which probably sounds more like a cat’s mating call in the middle of the night than Mick Jagger. Whoever you choose to give the microphone to is fully at your own risk. Fun and laughter is however a guarantee with this get the party started game!

The other game I feel deserves a quick mention as well is Wii Fit. Yes I know, how can fitness be fun and what does gaming and exercise have to do with each other anyways? Somehow though, playing a fitness simulation type game changes everything. There is yoga, skateboarding, obstacle courses, boxing and Rhythm Kung Fu but too name a few and with the Wii Balance board you’ll be off the couch in no time, doing all sort of silly moves as you play the various exercise type games. Before you know it you heart rate would have increased and you’ll be working up a bit off a sweat and having fun at the same time. Although there are a couple of tougher exercise programs available, you probably won’t be the Aerobics King or Queen at the gym, but at least you’ll be off the couch doing some form of exercise while you’re having fun….yes you read correctly….exercise while you’re having fun. Impossible? Just try it. What have you got too loose…….LOL….no pun intended!!

There is another aspect of gaming that I personally view very important…time limitation. Who in today’s rushed world has time to really sit down and get to know all the ins and outs of a game, so that you can play it from start to finish. Most of us just don’t have time to become hard core gamers. With work, family responsibilities, studying, functions, exercising because we have to (health), doing groceries, shopping, rushing here and there etc. etc. etc…..all that the average Joe (well this one at least) really wants from his gaming console and games is some fun relaxation that isn’t too challenging (but not too easy either). Nintendo Wii Games provides all of that with the added bonus of being able to provide an awesome interactive social experience. But don’t be fooled though, this is no Mickey Mouse Gaming Console. It just caters for different people and can definitely also provide for the more serious gamer. That probably makes the Wii the best all round gaming console available on the market today.

Fans of the other consoles can play down the Wii all they want to, but the fact remains: The Nintendo Wii is the most user friendly gaming option around for the average Joe (with the option to take it up a level if you wish to and have the time). Then I feel I must point out one more fact that you might not be aware of…..Nintendo Wii remains the fastest selling console in the history of the gaming industry and that says it all. Use it, don’t use, but the facts are there. Millions upon millions of people have bought and are already enjoying the Wii and surely millions more will. Whether you become part of the worldwide Wii family is of course entirely up to you. As far as we are concerned Nintendo Wii is truly for Everyone……….. So what are you waiting for?
